The Department of Pharmacy at Sri K. Ramachandran Naidu
College of Pharmacy is dedicated to imparting fundamental and applied knowledge in
pharmaceutical sciences. The department aims to produce pharmacy professionals who are
well-versed in dispensing medicines, patient counseling, and pharmaceutical ethics. With
a blend of modern teaching methodologies, experienced faculty, and state-of-the-art
laboratories, the department ensures that students gain strong foundational knowledge
along with practical training required to serve in healthcare and allied industries.
About the Course
The Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) is a 2-year full-time
program followed by 3 months of mandatory practical training. This entry-level course is
designed for students who aspire to begin a career in the pharmacy sector at the
earliest stage. The program emphasizes the basics of pharmaceutical sciences, human
anatomy, pharmacology, and dispensing practices. Students are also trained in
communication skills and patient care, making them capable of working in community and
hospital pharmacy settings.
Course Highlights & Eligibility
- Duration: 2 years of academic study + 3 months of practical training
- Practical Training: Minimum 500 hours of hands-on experience in a Government Hospital, Dispensary, or PCI-recognized pharmacy
Eligibility:
Pass in Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) or its equivalent with:
- Physics, Chemistry, and Biology / Mathematics OR
- Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology
- Minimum Age: 17 years and above
Curriculum & Attendance
The D.Pharm curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, including:
- Pharmaceutics
- Pharmaceutical Chemistry
- Pharmacognosy
- Pharmacology & Toxicology
- Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence
- Human Anatomy & Physiology
- Health Education & Community Pharmacy
Students must maintain a minimum of 80% attendance in both theory and practical classes separately to be eligible for university examinations.
Lateral Entry
Students completing D.Pharm are eligible for direct admission
(lateral entry) into the 2nd year of B.Pharm, provided they have studied in a
PCI-recognized institution. This pathway enables diploma holders to continue
their higher education without losing academic years.
